The UG and PG students of Botany dept. participated in the two day Nature Camp organised by the Kerala Forest Department, Govt of Kerala at Peruvannamoozhi Forest Range. It included Trekking, River visit, Awareness sessions by the forest experts, Snake and Bird Watch and other nature activities.

The Department of Botany, Providence Women’s College (Autonomous), Kozhikode, organized a two-day workshop titled “Earth Watch Network – An Interactive Session with Students” on 5 and 6 February 2026 at the MV Hall, with support from the Kerala State Biodiversity Board. The Department of Botany, Providence Women’s College (Autonomous), Kozhikode, in collaboration with Serah Coaching Centre, conducted an Intercollegiate CSIR-NET Life Science One Month Crash Course during December 2025 with the aim of providing focused and intensive training for CSIR-NET aspirants. The programme covered major areas of the Life Science syllabus with emphasis on conceptual clarity, problem-solving, previous year question analysis, and exam-oriented strategies, and was handled by experienced faculty and subject experts.

A seminar on “Plant Science and Research Matters” was conducted by the Department of Botany, in association with the Research and Development (R&D) Cell, Providence Women’s College (Autonomous), Kozhikode, on 02 December 2025 from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm at MV Hall. The session was handled by Professor Minoo Divakaran, Director of Research, Providence Women’s College, who delivered an insightful talk highlighting current trends, challenges, and opportunities in plant science research. This was followed by another talk by Mrs. Fathima Rafieah, Research Scholar, Providence Women’s College, on the topic “Connecting Concepts to Theory”, emphasizing the integration of theoretical knowledge with research practice. The Department of Botany organized a workshop on BGA Production and Mass Multiplication on 26 November 2025 at 9.30 am in the Botany Laboratory of Providence Women’s College (Autonomous), Kozhikode. The workshop was handled by Dr. Sevichan P. J., Associate Professor (RTD), Department of Botany, St. Joseph’s College, Devagiri, Kozhikode. The session provided hands-on training on the techniques involved in the production and large-scale multiplication of blue green algae, emphasizing their agricultural and environmental significance. The workshop enhanced students’ practical skills and understanding of sustainable bioresource utilization.  

The Department of Botany organized a hands-on workshop titled Gateway to Bioinformatics: Bridging Biology and Technology on 13 November 2025 at 11.00 am in the Computer Lab of Providence Women’s College (Autonomous), Kozhikode. The workshop aimed at integrating biological sciences with computational approaches and providing students with exposure to emerging trends in bioinformatics. The session was handled by Dr. Showmy K. S., Assistant Professor, Department of Botany and Computational Biology, St. Aloysius College. Through interactive demonstrations and practical sessions, students gained valuable insights into bioinformatics tools and interdisciplinary research, thereby enhancing their understanding of modern biological research methodologies.

The Department of Botany conducted an interactive session titled Beyond the Borders on 10 November 2025 at 12.00 pm in the 3rd year Botany classroom of Providence Women’s College (Autonomous), Kozhikode. The session was handled by Dr. Saranya Harmesh, M.Sc. Food Science and Technology, Teesside University, Middlesbrough, UK, an alumna of Providence Women’s College. The programme focused on broadening students’ academic and career perspectives by sharing international exposure, higher education opportunities, and research experiences abroad. The session was highly engaging and served as a source of motivation for students to explore global learning and career pathways.

Plant–Pathogen Dialogue, an interactive session with students, was conducted on 07 November 2025 at 10.00 am in the 1st year M.Sc. Botany classroom of Providence Women’s College (Autonomous), Kozhikode. The session was handled by Ms. Maneesha K., KSCSTE Research Fellow, PG & Research Department of Zoology, Govt. College Madappally, Vatakara. The programme aimed to update students’ understanding of plant diseases, support their local plant disease documentation reports, and encourage research motivation through strong academic–research linkage. The session was informative and interactive, enabling students to gain practical insights into plant–pathogen interactions and fostering interest in research-oriented learning.
