The activities of the English Association for the academic year 2025-26 were officially inaugurated by Prof. Sajitha M. A., Dept. of English, University of Calicut on 6th January 2026, with the key note address titled, “Literary Tourism: Unveiling Literary and Learning Landscape”. The University first rank holders of the previous BA and MA batches –Angel Theresa Biju and Agna K. T. respectively – and the VI rank holder of the BA batch—Divya Paul – were honored by the dept. during the event.
The Research and Development Cell of the Department organised a session on The Mechanics of Research Writing on 22 December 2025 for the third year students Anupam Catherine John, student of IMA English and also a distinguished alumni was the resource person for the session. The session explored the various dimensions of research writing and project work. The session concluded with a small discussion on the topic followed by a formal vote of thanks by Gouri P.
The Annual Lecture on Cinema Studies for 2025-26 was delivered by Dr. Robin Xavier, Assistant Professor, Research and PG Department of English, St. Joseph's College (Autonomous), Devagiri on 19th February 2026 at 1.30 pm in the MV Hall. The lecture was titled, "Reframing the Hero: Hegemonic Masculinity and Resistance in Contemporary Malayalam Cinema" and explored areas including Representation in Cinema, Representation of the Male (Hero) in Malayalam cinema, Caste in Cinema – Hegemony/Homogenization of Identities, Toxic and Sensitive Masculinities and Subordinate Masculinities: Dalit, Muslim & non-Syrian Christian Representations in cinema.
CON-TEXTS 2026 – Seminar Report The annual seminar of the PG & Research Department of English, Providence Women’s College (Autonomous), Kozhikode, CON-TEXTS 2026, was conducted on 13 February 2026 as a one-day national seminar on the theme Contours of Memory: Emerging Trajectories in Memory Studies. The keynote address was delivered by Dr Avishek Parui, Associate Professor of English, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. The inaugural session also featured felicitations by the Principal, Dr. (Sr). Jaseena Joseph, and Dr Shanthi Vijayan, Head of the PG & Research Department of English. On 23/01/2026, a programme titled “Unite to End Violence Against Women – From Real to Virtual World… Sensitize Them Young!!” was held at 1:30 p.m. in Carmel Hall, Providence Women’s College, organised by the Calicut Obstetric and Gynaecological Society (COGS) in association with the PG and Research Department of English. The presidential address was given by Dr. Ajitha P. N., President of COGS, and the Resource Person for the programme was Dr. Varsha Vidyadharan , Associate Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College, Kozhikode, who discussed key concerns related to digital violence.
