The PG & Research Dept. of English, Providence Women’s College conducted a Research Orientation Session on 24 Oct. 2025. The Keynote Address, “To be or not to be” was delivered by Prof. Minoo Divakaran, Director of Research and Consultancy.
The session began with a discussion on how the FYUP (Four-Year Undergraduate Program) enables students to pursue Ph.D. studies directly, bypassing the need for a Master’s degree. It was then highlighted that, in the current job market, many candidates hold B.A. English degrees. To stand out as a desirable candidate, it is essential to supplement the degree with additional courses and skill-based training. The instructor also emphasized that numerous professional opportunities are available online and introduced various platforms where students can explore ways to make the most of their English degree. Furthermore, she explained what qualities employers seek in a graduate student, both in India and abroad, and encouraged exploring career paths beyond traditional roles such as teaching.
