The Department of Physics at Providence College was established in 1959. The three year Degree Programme was initiated in 1972 followed by a two year MSc programme in 1998. The department became a Research centre under Calicut university in the year 2013. The goal and objective of the department is to undertake graduate and post graduate teaching and impart research training to students who opt for advanced studies in Physics. With the support from DST, IUCAA and ISRO the department now maintains a well-equipped research lab and data analysis lab.
